London, 28 September 2025. — We are delighted to announce that H.E. Luis Vayas-Valdivieso, Ambassador of the Republic of Ecuador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland, attending the International Gala “Education for Sustainability” as a special guest. 

H.E. Vayas-Valdivieso is a career diplomat of the Ecuadorian Foreign Service, with more than 30 years of experience, currently Ambassador of Ecuador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, concurrent to Ireland and Portugal, and the Chair of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution.

As a diplomat, he has served in the Ecuadorian Embassies in Sweden and Spain, as well as in the Permanent Representation of Ecuador to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. In addition, in 2022 he was appointed as Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs; in 2021 as Vice-Minister of Human Mobility; and, previously in 2019, Chief of Cabinet of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador.

Ambassador Vayas has extensive experience in international negotiations. In the multilateral environmental field, one of his life commitments, he was vice-president of the conference of the parties to the Basel Convention (2017-2019), to the Stockholm Convention (three terms: 2010-2011, 2013-2015 and 2015-2017) and to the Rotterdam Convention (2011-2013).
Another of his professional passions is education, he has ample experience as a university professor. He has taught International Relations and lectured on political, economic, commercial, cultural, tourism and social issues at national and international events.

Ambassador Vayas is a Ph.D. candidate in Social Sciences and holds a Master’s Degree in Comparative and International Law.

Luis Vayas-Valdivieso has been decorated as Knight of the National Order of Merit, Ecuador (1997); Grand Officer of the Order of Rio Branco, Brazil (2023); and with the Vicente Rocafuerte Order of Diplomatic Merit in the Grade of Grand Cross, Ecuador (2025).

The International Gala “Education for Sustainability” will take place at the Caledonian Club on Friday, 7 November 2025, at 19.00.

The funds collected will be used to finance a select number of projects related to education and sustainability in Latin America.
